Dietary Considerations for Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Symptoms: Stabbing or distending pain in the lower abdomen radiating to the lumbosacral region, palpable masses in the lower abdomen causing tenderness upon pressure, excessive vaginal discharge, irregular menstruation with dark-colored blood and clots. Dark tongue with ecchymotic spots on the edges, thin white coating, wiry and thready pulse.
Dietary Therapy: ① 30g Hawthorn, 15g Citrus aurantium, 60g Bidens pilosa. Decoct together, take 1 dose daily for 7–8 consecutive days. ② 30g Patrinia scabiosaefolia, 10g Citrus aurantium, 10g Rosa rugosa. Decoct and take 1 dose daily for 5–6 consecutive days.
2. Liver-Kidney Yin Deficiency
Manifestations: Dull lower abdominal pain, profuse yellow, viscous, foul-smelling vaginal discharge. Accompanied by soreness in waist and knees, dizziness, or early menstruation with pale red blood. Red tongue with scant coating, fine and rapid pulse.
Dietary Therapy: ① 30g raw rehmannia root, 30–60g japonica rice.Wash and slice raw rehmannia root. Decoct twice in water, collecting 100 ml of liquid total. Cook japonica rice into porridge. When 80% cooked, add the decoction and finish cooking. Consume the porridge. May be taken for several consecutive days. ② 5 pigeon eggs, 30g donkey-hide gelatin. Place gelatin in a bowl with sufficient water. Melt over indirect heat (no direct flame). While hot, mix in pigeon eggs until well combined.Consume in two divided doses (morning and evening) until symptoms resolve. 3. Spleen-Kidney Yang Deficiency Symptoms: Lower abdominal heaviness and dull pain, excessive thin and clear vaginal discharge. Accompanied by lower back soreness, limb weakness, aversion to cold, cold limbs, and facial swelling. Pale, swollen tongue with thin white coating; deep and fine pulse.
Dietary Therapy: ① Boil 50g leek roots, 2 eggs, and 50g white sugar into a soup. Consume daily for several days. ② Cook 20g walnut kernels, 18g euryale seed, 18g lotus seeds, and 60g japonica rice into porridge for regular consumption.
II. How to Manage Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Through Diet?
Consume light, easily digestible foods such as adzuki beans, mung beans, winter melon, lentils, and purslane. Include foods that promote blood circulation, regulate qi, and disperse nodules, such as hawthorn, peach kernels, dried persimmon peel, tangerine seeds, tangerine peel, rose petals, and kumquats. Appropriately supplement protein from lean pork, duck, goose, and quail.

Preparation: Simmer ingredients in sufficient water over low heat. Season with salt. Consume both broth and meat.
