Historically, frozen shoulder was prevalent among manual laborers. Today, however, office workers increasingly dominate this high-risk group. Prolonged desk work has made frozen shoulder a primary health concern for office professionals. Its discomfort severely impacts both physical health and quality of life. Thus, prevention becomes paramount for white-collar workers. So how can those working long hours prevent frozen shoulder?
How to Prevent Frozen Shoulder
1. Keep Your Shoulders Warm
Besides poor posture, exposure to cold often triggers shoulder issues. Basic warmth measures are essential in daily life. Especially during cold winters, prioritize shoulder warmth and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.Beyond winter, summer also requires warmth precautions. Many people retreat to air-conditioned rooms during hot weather, but neglecting warmth then can expose shoulders to cold and trigger symptoms. Therefore, wear extra layers or shawls over your shoulders in daily life to ensure they stay warm. If you do catch a chill, seek prompt treatment—never delay.
2. Nutritional Supplementation
Nutritional deficiency is another primary cause of frozen shoulder. Experts emphasize the importance of ensuring adequate intake of various nutrients in daily life. Prolonged malnutrition can lead to physical weakness, which often contributes to frozen shoulder. Sufficient nutrition combined with appropriate exercise can not only prevent frozen shoulder but may even lead to recovery without medication.
3. Perform Shoulder Exercises Regularly
In daily life, engage in regular arm and shoulder exercises, especially for those who spend long hours working at a computer or desk. The most effective exercise is arm swinging. Perform 40 forward swings followed by 40 backward swings, alternating arms. Typically, consistent practice for one to two months will significantly alleviate shoulder discomfort. Additionally, wall-climbing exercises are beneficial: stand facing a wall and push both hands upward, aiming to increase height daily.
4. Enhancing Physical Constitution
A weak constitution can also trigger shoulder periarthritis. Individuals with weaker constitutions should incorporate regular physical activities into their daily routines to strengthen their bodies. Even those in good health should prioritize exercise, as it not only builds physical resilience but also better protects shoulder health.Regular exercise is an effective method for preventing and treating frozen shoulder, but consistency is key—sporadic efforts will yield no results.
Shoulder Exercises:
1. Shoulder Tapping.Begin by using your right palm to tap your left shoulder moderately and firmly at a moderate pace, while your left hand taps your back. Then switch to tapping your right shoulder with your left hand and your back with your right hand, repeating this sequence for a total of 50 taps. 2. Hanging exercises. Use a horizontal bar or tree trunk to perform hanging exercises. Start with fewer repetitions and progress gradually according to your ability.
3. Shoulder Rotations. Rotate shoulders forward and backward 18 times each at moderate speed with moderate force. Alternate sides, performing 18 repetitions per shoulder.
4. Arm Swings. Raise both arms overhead with palms facing outward. Swing arms upward naturally, engaging the waist in a rhythmic motion for 36 repetitions. Conclude with side-to-side and up-and-down arm swings, performing 18 repetitions each.
5. Shoulder Stretching. Begin by stretching your left shoulder to the left with moderate force and speed. Then stretch your right shoulder to the right using the same method. Alternate sides for a total of 36 stretches.
