Winter jasmine not only possesses noble character but also significant medicinal value. The Compendium of Materia Medica states it can "relieve summer heat and generate fluids." Modern research indicates winter jasmine flowers contain various volatile oils, jasminine, jasminoside, and beta-carotene. Pharmacological experiments show jasminine has effects similar to strychnine (which excites the central nervous system but is highly toxic), along with lowering blood sugar and stimulating the uterus and intestines.Traditional Chinese medicine classifies winter jasmine as warm in nature with a pungent taste, possessing effects such as relieving summer heat and promoting fluid production. It is highly effective for treating feverish thirst, chest tightness, cough, and thermal burns. Wind-heat red eyes: Decoct 10g winter jasmine and 10g Hangzhou chrysanthemum in water, mix in 15g honey, and drink.
Sore Throat: Decoct 10g wax plum blossoms, 10g Isatis leaf, 10g loquat fruit, and 5g Sterculia seed in water. Drink the decoction.
Globus Hystericus: Steep 10g wax plum blossoms and 10g Dendrobium flower in boiling water, sweeten, and drink as tea.
Summer Heat Thirst: Decoct 10g winter jasmine flowers, 10g mung bean flowers, and 15g fresh lotus leaves. Adjust with rock sugar.
Burns: Crush 10g fresh winter jasmine flowers to extract juice. Apply externally to affected area.
