Resolves phlegm and disperses nodules: ① For scrofula and swollen lymph nodes in the neck and armpits, combine with seaweed, prunella, stiff silkworm, red peony root, and processed armadillo shell.② For scrofula, combine with Sargassum, Scutellaria baicalensis, Paeonia rubra, Scorpio, and Scolopendra. ③ For abdominal masses (hepatosplenomegaly), combine with Curcuma zedoaria, Curcuma longa, Carapax testudinis, Prunus persica, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Paeonia rubra.
2. Promotes diuresis and reduces swelling:① For renal edema, combine with Wu Ling San or Wu Pi Yin; may also be paired with Sargassum. ② For painful, scanty, or frequent urination due to heat-lind syndrome, decoct this herb alone for oral administration.

1. Kelp and Sea Snail Shell both possess salty taste and cold nature, with effects of softening hard masses, resolving phlegm, and promoting diuresis to reduce swelling.However, Sargassum (Hải Tảo) primarily enters the Liver, excelling at softening hard masses and dispersing nodules. It is suitable for goiter nodules, testicular swelling and pain, and hepatosplenomegaly. Sea Shell (Hải Hào) primarily enters the Lung, excelling at clearing and descending phlegm-heat. It is frequently used for phlegm-fire cough with chest pain.Kelp eliminates phlegm nodules, disperses goiters, possesses strong digestive-promoting power, rapidly descends qi, and prolonged use promotes weight loss.
【Combination Applications】
1. Combined with Sargassum: Both herbs eliminate phlegm and disperse nodules; their combined effect is synergistic, making them a common pairing for treating scrofula and goiters.
2.Paired with White Stiff Silkworm: Kelp eliminates phlegm and softens hard masses, while White Stiff Silkworm transforms phlegm and disperses nodules. Together, they significantly enhance phlegm-resolving, hardness-softening, and nodule-dispersing effects, suitable for goiters and scrofula. 3. Paired with Plantain Seed: Both herbs promote diuresis and reduce swelling. Combined, they synergistically enhance diuretic action, treating edema and beriberi.
【Application Precautions】
1. Contraindicated with licorice.
