Among oily skin types, many struggle with acne. When sebaceous glands overproduce oil, excess sebum trapped in pores can undergo harmful fatty acid oxidation or anaerobic bacterial infection upon exposure to bacteria or pollutants, leading to breakouts.
2. Blackheads
When sebum remains trapped in pores for extended periods, it not only triggers acne but also leads to blackheads. The exposed sebum oxidizes upon contact with air, causing the ends of oil particles to appear as tiny yellowish-brown specks. From a distance, these appear dark brown, hence the name "blackheads."
3.Dull Complexion
A lackluster complexion isn't solely caused by excessive melanin deposition; it can also result from sebum oxidation. When large amounts of oil cannot be utilized by the stratum corneum, it accumulates in areas with highly developed sebaceous glands. Over time, this oxidized oil turns yellowish, giving the entire complexion a dull, lackluster appearance. This phenomenon is analogous to how pearls turn yellow when exposed to air over extended periods.
4. Enlarged pores
Excessive sebum production also stretches pores. When existing pore size cannot accommodate the current "output" of sebum, the constant surge of excess oil—combined with dead skin cells clogging the pore edges—makes pores appear abnormally large from a distance.
5. Demodex Mite Infection
Demodex mites are parasitic demodex mites that inhabit hair follicles, feeding on human sebum. Excessive oil production provides ample nourishment for these mites, accelerating their reproduction. Simultaneously, their activity within the skin stimulates sebaceous gland activity, creating a vicious cycle.
