It also possesses astringent properties to secure essence and stop emission, reduce urination, and arrest leukorrhea, treating various symptoms of kidney deficiency and slippage.For impotence due to kidney yang deficiency and cold in the lower energizer, as well as seminal emission and enuresis, use this herb alone (Compendium of Materia Medica); or combine with Ophiopogon japonicus, Plantago seed, Cuscuta seed, etc., as in the Formula for Urinary and Seminal Leakage in Dreams (Outside the Palace Secrets);It may also be combined with warming and tonifying herbs for the liver and kidneys, such as Psoralea corylifolia, Dragon Bone, and Amomum villosum, to astringe essence and stop leakage (Wei's Family Prescriptions). For kidney yang deficiency causing loss of control over the belt meridian, resulting in leukorrhea and abnormal vaginal discharge, this herb may be used alone. For example, in Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold, it is boiled in vinegar, dried, ground into powder, mixed with refined honey into pills, and taken with warm wine on an empty stomach.
