The manufacturing process of lipstick strictly controls lead content. Moreover, since lipstick hasn't become an essential daily item for most women—remaining a favorite only among beauty enthusiasts—usage levels naturally don't reach the point of causing excessive absorption of lead or other heavy metals. To date, no cases of severe poisoning from applying lipstick have been reported.
Thus, the claim that lipstick is toxic cannot be fully substantiated. However, this does not negate potential risks. The current lipstick market is chaotic, with merchants often substituting inferior products for genuine ones to meet demand and maximize profits. Counterfeit and private-label products are ubiquitous. These lipsticks may be produced with cut corners or contain excessive heavy metals added for more dramatic effects. Thus, we remind beauty-conscious women: beauty requires knowledge, not blindness. Always choose lipsticks from trusted brands. Never experiment with your lips by buying street-stall products—you may spend your money, but you risk your health.
So what are the correct practices for using lipstick?
1. Choose brands with proven quality and good reputation. Never select lipstick solely for its vivid color—often, overly bright shades contain more additives.
2. Never use expired lipstick. All products have a limited shelf life; discard them once past their expiration date.Keep wet wipes handy to remove lipstick before meals. Reapply after eating to enhance safety. Reapplying after meals also refreshes your lip color. Eating with lipstick on not only introduces it into your body but also compromises its appearance.
4. Lipstick should be for personal use only. Avoid sharing lipstick whenever possible. Used lipstick comes into contact with the skin of the lips and can become a source of infection. If the user has certain conditions, these could potentially be transmitted to another person through the lipstick. Therefore, it's best to use lipstick exclusively and avoid passing it around.
