Any parent concerned about their child's health likely fears lead poisoning. However, as reported by American media on September 21, many everyday household items pose greater risks than lead-based paint.
1. Amalgam Fillings
Avoid using amalgam fillings (also known as mercury fillings) for children's dental work. If children inhale mercury vapor or accidentally swallow it, mercury poisoning may occur.
2. Antibacterial Soap
Why is antibacterial soap effective? Because it contains trace amounts of toxic substances. These are harmful to the human body, especially for children whose nervous systems are still developing. Therefore, avoid all products labeled "antibacterial." Opt for natural soap instead, allowing your child's immune system to function and kill common bacteria.
3. Sports Drinks
Simply because they're labeled "sports," some parents assume these drinks are healthy and even potassium-replenishing. In reality, the chemical sweeteners they contain are harmful. Drinking plain water is a smarter choice. Many children's medications are more toxic than adult versions because they contain added chemical sweeteners and artificial colors.
5. Sunscreen Chemicals
Many sunscreen ingredients can cause skin cancer due to their toxic compounds. Worse, these chemicals block UV rays, preventing the skin from producing vitamin D naturally, which affects bone growth.
6. Processed Milk
Some children under 10 develop heart disease, partly linked to the processed milk they consume. This is because certain processed milks may contain pesticides and other chemicals.
