Breast tenderness during menstruation is a common symptom for many women. How can this discomfort be alleviated? The following 5-step method offers relief.
1. Breast Massage for Pain Relief
Stimulating the breast area promotes blood and lymphatic circulation. Massaging nightly for 7-10 days before menstruation can also ease swelling and soreness.
Technique: Gently cup one breast with both palms from the sides. Then, tighten your hands and use your thumbs at the base of the breast to gently lift the breast upward. Repeat 10 times on each side. Note: Avoid massage when breasts are extremely tender to prevent excessive stimulation.
2. Heat Therapy
Heat therapy offers direct and effective relief. When experiencing breast tenderness, wrap a hot water bottle in a towel and apply it to the chest. If results are unsatisfactory, prepare a basin of cool water, soak a towel, and alternate hot and cold compresses.
Alternatively, apply a castor oil compress. Castor oil contains substances that enhance lymphocyte function. Apply castor oil to gauze, place it on the affected area, and cover with plastic wrap to prevent staining clothing. Use a hot water bottle or warm towel to apply heat for about one hour.
3. Properly Fitting Bras
Bras that are too small compress the breasts, hindering blood circulation and causing swelling and pain. Bras that are too large fail to provide adequate support, increasing the risk of injury during physical activity. Those who frequently dine out should take note: restaurant meals often contain significantly more seasonings and salt than home-cooked dishes. If you consume salty stews or snacks, avoid immediately drinking large amounts of water. This won't neutralize the salt but may instead cause it to permeate into the bloodstream through fluids, putting pressure on blood vessels.
5. Vitamins to Reduce Prolactin
Prolactin contributes to breast swelling. Increase intake of foods rich in Vitamin C and B vitamins to regulate prostaglandin E production, which helps inhibit prolactin secretion.
Friendly reminder: If you experience breast tenderness before your period, try the above methods to ease discomfort. Also make dietary adjustments, avoiding coffee as much as possible.
