The critical period for fetal visual development occurs during pregnancy.
Eye development takes place between 20 and 40 days after conception. During this period, if the expectant mother unfortunately contracts a virus, catches a cold, is exposed to chemicals, or uses pregnancy-sustaining drugs, it can affect eye development and cause eye deformities. Therefore, expectant mothers in the early stages of pregnancy must be especially careful to provide a safe and healthy environment for their baby's development.Expectant mothers should avoid viral infections; refrain from handling or using chemical substances; and always consult a doctor before taking any medication, clearly informing the physician of their pregnancy. Never take medication without proper medical advice.
Improper handling during delivery may damage the infant's eyes, causing vision impairment.
Rapid delivery with excessive pressure on the birth canal can harm the newborn's brain tissue and body.
Inappropriate use of forceps during delivery—such as improper positioning or pinching the eye or optic nerve—can damage the eyeball, optic nerve, or even cause eyeball rupture.
Excessive oxygen administration to newborns can also impair visual development;
Prolonged labor may cause retinal hemorrhage. If the bleeding is severe, it may not be fully absorbed, potentially affecting the child's vision.
Numerous factors before and during delivery can impact a baby's vision. Mothers must closely cooperate with medical professionals to ensure a smooth delivery and prevent injury.
