While many women desire larger breasts, for some, excessively large breasts become a burden. When breasts are too large, a condition known as macromastia, breast reduction surgery is necessary to restore health and beauty. Below, we outline the steps involved in breast reduction.
Step 1: Patient Positioning
After anesthesia, the patient lies supine with arms abducted and the back slightly elevated.Extend the incision along both sides of the trapezoid upward to the inframammary fold, penetrating to the subcutaneous layer.
Step 3:
Avoid the trapezoidal area and resect the full thickness of skin along the crescent-shaped incision line. Elevate the upper skin flap to expose the glandular tissue.
Step 4:
Based on glandular size, make an S-shaped resection along the midpoint of the upper inner edge of the areola and the inner edge of the dermal flap, extending downward toward the inframammary fold.
Step Four of Breast Reduction Surgery:
Based on glandular size, perform an S-shaped resection of the upper-inner glandular tissue from the midpoint of the glandular upper border downward along the upper-inner margin of the areola and the inner edge of the dermal flap. Close the glandular wound by approximating and suturing the edges.
Step Five of Breast Reduction Surgery:
Create an incision along the planned line at the new nipple position. Elevate the nipple and bring it out from the incision beneath the upper skin flap. Secure the edges with sutures. After completing all procedures, apply thick-layer compression dressing to the entire breast.
