In summer, many people grow moneywort, a plant with auspicious symbolism—its very name evokes prosperity. Its appearance is also quite attractive. So what's the best way to cultivate moneywort and care for it daily? Let's explore below. Moneywort Cultivation Guide: 1. Use a pot without drainage holes (like those for narcissus). Place a 2cm layer of soil at the bottom(any type of soil is fine, just avoid overly sticky varieties).
2. Place a few stem sections of the plant on top of the soil (you can trim off all the leaves), then cover with a thin layer of soil!
3. Add water to the pot, keeping the water level about 1 cm below the rim.
4. Take it outside for plenty of direct sunlight!
Regular Care:
1.Keep the soil consistently moist, never allowing it to dry out completely.
2. Apply balanced fertilizer once a week (dissolve the fertilizer in water and add it to the pot along with the watering water; avoid getting fertilizer solution on the leaves).
3. Remove yellowing leaves regularly for aesthetic purposes. Thin out overly crowded leaves to maintain a neat plant shape.
About Moneywort Renewal:
Typically every three months, as roots become overcrowded in the pot. You'll notice water dries out quickly due to limited space for water absorption. This leads to nutrient deficiency, causing leaves to shrink and yellow, gradually diminishing the plant's original vigor! The best solution is to refresh the plant.
Two common methods exist:
1. Replant using the method described above! However, this method takes longer to develop a full form. Therefore, I usually opt for the second approach:
2. Remove the plant from its pot. Use scissors to trim off all the leaves. Then divide the root system into five sections. Plant three of these sections in a new pot. This method allows the plant to develop quickly, producing a full-sized plant in less than a month! As for the extra sections, you can plant them in other pots or simply discard them.
How to Grow Large-Leaved Moneywort:
1. Use a large pot! The bigger, the better—a 40cm diameter pot will yield plants over 50cm in diameter!
2. Give it plenty of sunlight!
That concludes our guide on optimal care and maintenance for moneywort. We hope this information proves helpful. Wishing you good health and smooth sailing this winter.
