Golden oranges are warm in nature and sweet in taste, offering cough-relieving, stomach-strengthening, and phlegm-dissolving benefits. Rock sugar is neutral in nature and sweet, providing tonifying, qi-nourishing, stomach-harmonizing, and lung-moistening effects. Combined, they effectively dissolve phlegm and suppress coughs. Their warming properties moderately boost the body's yang energy, helping dispel wind and cold. This makes them suitable for cold-induced coughs caused by exposure to chill or wind-cold.
Method for Treating Cold Cough with Kumquats and Rock Sugar
1. Thoroughly wash the kumquats and soak them in salt water for about 5 minutes to effectively remove surface dirt.
2. Use a small knife to make a small cross-shaped incision on each washed kumquat to facilitate softening during cooking and enhance efficacy.
3.Add rock sugar to a pot. Once melted, pour in an appropriate amount of water and bring to a boil over high heat.
4. After boiling, add the kumquats. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
Note: The kumquats are ready when they become translucent.
Precautions for Using Kumquats and Rock Sugar to Relieve Coughs
1.Individuals with diabetes should avoid excessive consumption, as the high sugar content may elevate blood glucose levels and worsen diabetic conditions.
2. Those with coughs producing yellow or thick phlegm should limit intake, as the sugar in the mixture may irritate the throat, exacerbating discomfort and potentially worsening symptoms.

Note: Kumquat rock sugar only provides auxiliary relief for coughs. Severe coughs require medical examination.
Salted kumquats are kumquats preserved in salt. Like fresh kumquats, they are warm in nature and sweet in taste, helping to relieve coughs and dissolve phlegm. They can alleviate throat pain, hoarseness, and coughing caused by colds, making them suitable for treating cold-induced coughs. However, they are generally not recommended for individuals with a hot constitution, as they may increase internal yang energy and lead to symptoms of heatiness.
