Influenced by traditional feudal ideology
I recall a scene from a film: A woman fleeing famine was taken in by a family. On the eve of her wedding, she was raped by the married landlord. On her wedding night, her husband spread a white cotton cloth on the bed. After consummating the marriage, he found the cloth remained white. The husband flew into a rage, cursing her and demanding, "Who did this? Tell me the truth!"
This stems from the pervasive influence of feudal ideology. Another feudal folk belief regarding virginity is the practice of "auspicious marriage" (冲喜). This ritual involves a family member marrying a virgin to "boost yang energy" when someone is critically ill, experiencing bad luck, or suffering from a deficiency of yang energy. The belief is that the bride's virginity will enhance the family's fortune or health. What began as a folk practice to ward off illness and avert danger through celebratory rites has now been distorted by some men into a pervasive trend of purchasing virginity.
Intense Possessiveness
Nearly every man possesses a strong urge to possess. He desires his beloved to belong entirely to him—body and soul. If a woman has been with another man, even if he initially accepts her, a knot forms in his heart that refuses to unravel. This stems from the male obsession with virginity.
The Conquest Instinct
In life, nearly every man possesses a desire for conquest, especially a highly successful professional. He yearns to find the perfect woman—a virgin. This allows him to feel not only superior to other men in his career but also that his wife is more "perfect" than others'. This is the male virginity complex: a craving for conquest and perfection, ensuring his life leaves no room for regret.
