Liposuction has become a popular weight-loss method among women in recent years, often their first choice for slimming down. However, liposuction carries significant risks and can easily cause irreversible damage to a woman's health. Although the technique has matured, substantial risks remain. Women should exercise caution when considering this option.
Risk 1: Numbness in the Body
Major nerves run through muscle tissue, while fat primarily contains peripheral blood vessels and nerves. After liposuction, damage to peripheral nerves can cause numbness, which typically resolves within about six months. However, this should not lead to the misconception that liposuction is entirely safe. The procedure must be performed within the body's tolerance limits; the more fat removed, the higher the risk. For example, when performing abdominal liposuction, removing only a small amount of fat from the upper abdomen may flatten the stomach but create a visible indentation when viewed from the front. The correct approach involves comprehensive and balanced liposuction across the upper and lower abdomen as well as the waist to achieve the desired contouring effect. However, for patients under 40, the skin possesses good elasticity and can gradually adjust and repair itself. With increasing age or in individuals who are excessively thin, skin elasticity decreases. After liposuction, it is advisable to undergo skin wall reshaping to remove excess skin and achieve a smoother appearance.
