Step 1: Moisten your face with lukewarm water
The temperature of your cleansing water is crucial. Some people opt for cold water for convenience, while others with oily skin believe only hot water can thoroughly remove oil and grime. Both approaches are incorrect. The proper method is to use lukewarm water. This ensures pores open fully without stripping the skin of its natural moisturizing oils.
Step 2: Lather the cleanser thoroughly
Regardless of the cleanser used, avoid excessive amounts—a coin-sized portion suffices. Before applying it to your face, always lather the cleanser thoroughly in your palms. This is the most overlooked step, yet it's the most crucial. If the cleanser isn't sufficiently foamed, it won't clean effectively and may leave residue in your pores, causing acne. More foam is always better, and you can use tools designed to help create a rich lather.
Step 3: Gently massage 15 times
After applying the foam to your face, gently massage in circular motions. Avoid applying too much pressure to prevent wrinkles. Massage approximately 15 times to ensure the foam covers your entire face.
Step 4: Rinse off the cleanser
After massaging with the cleanser, it's time to rinse. Some women worry about not rinsing thoroughly and vigorously rub their faces with a towel, which is very harmful to delicate skin. Instead, gently press a damp towel against your face several times to remove the cleanser without damaging your skin.
Step 5: Check Your Hairline
After rinsing, you might think you're done, but that's not quite the case. Take a moment to check your hairline in the mirror for any leftover cleanser—this step is often overlooked. Some women frequently get breakouts around their hairline precisely because they skip this step.
Step 6: Splash with Cold Water 20 Times
Finally, cup your hands and splash cold water onto your face about 20 times. Simultaneously, gently press a towel soaked in cool water against your face. This helps tighten pores while boosting facial blood circulation. Only then is your entire cleansing routine complete.
