I. Solving Eyeliner Smudging with a Cotton Swab
Oil-free, smudge-proof eyeliners are a favorite among beginners for their easy application, yet smudging remains an unavoidable issue.A makeup artist shared a trick: Eyeliner pencils are soft and contain oils. When combined with the natural oils from your skin and sweat, the double oil exposure inevitably leads to smudging.
II. Test Eyeliner Gel Color on Your Hand Before Application
Eyeliner gel is always paired with an eyeliner brush. The question is: how much gel should you load onto the brush to achieve smooth, even application on the eyelid? Many girls dab it on bit by bit, going back and forth over the lash line, only to end up with uneven thickness and patchy coverage.
Be bold and pick up a generous amount of color. Then blend it evenly on the web of your hand until the tip is uniformly coated. This way, one stroke can cover at least half your eye with consistent, even color.
3. Turn Your Head, Not Your Hand, for Smoother Liquid Eyeliner Application
Tilting your face toward the direction you're drawing the line can make the eyeliner tip too flexible, leading to uneven application even when you hold your breath.
Instead of moving the eyeliner, shift your head to control the line's evenness. Rest your palm on your cheekbone, starting at the inner corner. Maintain steady pressure, using the palm-cheek contact point as a pivot. Slowly and gently turn your face in the direction the line extends—this creates smoother strokes. If you accidentally draw it crooked or mess it up, but worry that removing the eyeliner might affect your base makeup, you can dip a cotton swab in a little foundation and gently cover the flawed line. Then you can redraw it.
