Janice Dickinson: Without Hyaluronic Acid, Celebrities Can't Survive Janice Dickinson, 49, serves as a judge on UPN's hit reality show America's Next Top Model. Dickinson herself was once a supermodel commanding attention on the runway. Now, this mother of two plans to return to the operating room for another round of cosmetic enhancements.
American Supermodel's Plastic Surgery Diary: Granting Beauty Eternal Life
In the glitz-and-glitter world of fashion, celebrities may openly admit to alcoholism or even drug use, but "plastic surgery" has always been a taboo no one dares touch. However, Dickinson wants people to know: the flawless images of celebrities aren't solely the result of genetics and Pilates (a popular fitness method). "People have no idea how much plastic surgery plays a role in Hollywood." Thus, Dickinson decided to publicly share her plastic surgery diary and plans to release her second memoir, Everything About Me Is Fake... But I'm Perfect.American People magazine recently published Dickinson's journey through cosmetic surgery.
Lifting the Veil on Plastic Surgery: Beautiful eyes, charming smiles—beauty has always been universally desired. Yet nature's whims often leave mortals yearning in vain. Thankfully, with rapid technological advances, creating beauty through the surgeon's knife is no longer a fairy tale.
I view cosmetic surgery as an expensive form of makeup. I simply wish to demystify it. I've undergone numerous procedures—a common experience among most in the entertainment industry. People often ask in astonishment, "Why don't I have a star-like face?" The answer is simple: many celebrities are also "artificially enhanced beauties."
I'm just 49, but I've always felt good about myself because I've had cosmetic procedures before. Shortly after my first child was born in 1987, I underwent abdominoplasty and breast augmentation. Later, wanting firmer breasts, I had a second augmentation. I also got porcelain veneers for teeth whitening. My principle is simple: if new cosmetic techniques can help me stay youthful, I'll be the first to book an appointment.
This time, my goal isn't a dramatic makeover but rather a series of refinements. The procedures will include a brow lift, a minor facelift, autologous fat injections into my cheeks, and a chemical peel. That's all. I don't want to look unrecognizable; I just want to shed this perpetual tired look.I felt I needed a doctor's help.
I was so nervous during the surgery
At 8:30 a.m. on March 11th, Dickinson arrived at Dr. Frank Ryan's cosmetic surgery clinic. At this renowned Beverly Hills practice, Dickinson would embark on her latest cosmetic journey.
I was so nervous, I just wanted to get it all over with.I only allowed myself to think about how radiant I'd look at this fall's new season of America's Next Top Model, and how beautiful and vibrant I'd appear before my children from now on. I want my kids to be proud of their mom.
Dr. Ryan is world-renowned, practically the Rolls-Royce or Bentley of the plastic surgery world. I trust him completely. The first thing I had to do today was sign a long form listing every possible complication from the surgery. Things like hair loss, dry eyes, scarring, allergic reactions... Seeing all that information at once made my head spin. I asked myself, what am I allergic to? What does "delayed recovery" even mean? It was terrifying.
My last meal was with my boyfriend. I only ate a T-bone steak, so now I'm a bit hungry. I'd love a bacon and egg sandwich. But the anesthesiologist arrived.
When I woke up, I felt utterly drained.
At 9:10 AM, post-anesthesia Dickinson lay still on the operating table.Dr. Ryan began the procedure. First, he performed a brow lift, eye bag removal, and a minor facelift on Dickinson. After lunch in his office, Dr. Ryan returned to the operating room to extract 25 milliliters of fat from Dickinson's abdomen and inner thighs, which he then injected into her cheeks. At 3:30 PM, Dickinson woke up and started complaining of pain.Dickinson was then transferred to the Serenity Recovery Center in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, where she spent five nights.
When I woke up, I felt utterly drained. My head was swathed in bandages, my eyes were puffy, and my entire body felt weak. I looked like a sleep-deprived rapper. This state lasted for three days.Initially, I reacted to the sedatives, occasionally seeing hallucinations. I kept thinking I spotted our Labrador retrievers in the hospital room and mistook the cleaning staff for my ex-boyfriend Mick Jagger. For the next few days, I was on pain medication. A catheter inserted into my bladder helped with bathroom needs.
Two days post-op, I started eating liquids. The rehab center provided a low-carb nutritional meal plan, but I couldn't stand the "plain fare." I wanted to scream, "Bring me macaroni and cheese!"

I didn't let my children visit me.
As a single mother, Dickinson shouldered the entire family's responsibilities: managing household chores, raising her children, and providing for the family. Dickinson always believed that to better fulfill her parental duties, she had to take care of herself first. This cosmetic surgery will allow her to maintain her youthful appearance on camera and in front of her children.
I didn't let my kids visit me because I didn't want 10-year-old Savannah and 16-year-old Nathan to see me with my head wrapped in gauze and covered in wounds. It would have been too terrifying for them. My only regret throughout this process is not discussing beforehand how drastically my appearance would change after the surgery. Before the surgery, I couldn't bear to look at myself in the mirror. Even little Savannah didn't want to see my aged face when I came home each day. Now, my face looks much better—no longer like a crumpled beauty portrait. When I returned home from the recovery center, Savannah couldn't believe her eyes. The mom she knew, with wrinkles, sagging skin, and a tired expression, had transformed into someone so young and beautiful.I felt fantastic, like I was in heaven.
"You look absolutely stunning!"
Twelve days after surgery, Dickinson appeared at a "America's Next Top Model" event alongside her two children and Dr. Ryan.Dickinson wore a sexy, form-fitting gown and 7-inch (approx. 18 cm) stiletto heels. Though her chin still had tape and she used her hair to cover the incision on her ear, Dickinson was undeniably a captivating sight at the gala.
Even I couldn't believe that at 49, I could fit into a size 4 dress.Through sensible dieting, yoga, cycling, meditation, and chasing after my kids and beloved dog, I've maintained a shapely figure. People often tell me, "You look absolutely stunning!"
Someone once asked if I'd encourage girls competing in America's Next Top Model to get plastic surgery. My answer is: "Absolutely not!" Look at Jackson—don't put your body through surgery unless it's absolutely necessary.
Right now, I'm completely intoxicated.
On March 19th, Dickinson returned to Dr. Ryan's clinic for a follow-up. She felt great. Dr. Ryan removed her stitches without a single drop of blood. He was very pleased with Dickinson's recovery.
Three days after the gala, Dr. Ryan removed the final stitches and pins from my head. At that moment, I felt like Frankenstein's bride (Frankenstein is a classic character from science fiction, an artificial human created by scientists using parts from different materials, who constantly sought a mate of his own kind). The only discomfort came from the pins pinching my skin. However, removing them was painless. Later, seeing the pile of pins before me, I joked that I could open a nail shop.
