Many people wash their hair directly with water without combing it first, unaware that this can severely damage the scalp.
Before washing, comb your hair with a damp brush to lift dirt and dust from the scalp, allowing both scalp and hair to be thoroughly cleansed. To avoid scalp injury, use a wide-toothed comb with rounded tips.
Second mistake: Applying shampoo immediately after wetting hair
Many people apply shampoo directly to freshly wet hair, unaware this method fails to clean thoroughly.
Before shampooing, rinse hair and scalp with warm water for at least one minute to remove 70-80% of dirt.Next, pour shampoo into your palm, add water to create a lather, and then apply it to your hair. This creates a richer foam that thoroughly cleanses the hair.
Mistake 3: Scratching the scalp with fingernails while washing
Fingernails harbor many bacteria. If the delicate scalp is scratched, it can easily lead to infection. When applying shampoo, gently massage the scalp with your fingertips. This removes dirt and promotes blood circulation.
Fourth mistake: Applying conditioner to the roots
Since hair follicles open during shampooing, applying conditioner to the roots allows chemicals to seep in and clog them. Instead, detangle your hair first, then apply conditioner from near the ears toward the ends. Avoid letting conditioner touch the scalp.
Fifth No-No: Not Rinsing Conditioner Thoroughly
Many believe leaving conditioner residue makes hair appear shinier. In reality, leftover conditioner mixes with dust to cling to the scalp, clogging follicles and causing inflammation. Always rinse conditioner completely after application.
Mistake 6: Sleeping with Wet Hair
When hair is wet, its cuticles lie flat, making it fragile and vulnerable to friction. Sleeping with damp hair can thin the cuticle layer, leading to dryness.
