Steps
Select ingredients
This herbal mask, named "Seven Whites," is a classic formula in traditional Chinese medicine for beauty. As the name suggests, it requires seven herbs: Atractylodes macrocephala, Angelica dahurica, Bletilla striata, Aconitum carmichaeli, Poria cocos, Paeonia lactiflora, and Bombyx mori. You can adjust the quantities of these ingredients based on your needs without significantly affecting the formula.
All these herbs are readily available at pharmacies. For your first batch, purchase smaller quantities of each ingredient, ensuring equal total weight. Liao Jin, Director of the Preventive Medicine Center at Guilin Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, explains that all seven herbs possess whitening properties, hence the "white" prefix in their names. Angelica dahurica ("white angelica"), the primary ingredient, "nourishes the skin, provides moisture, and can be used as a facial cream." The other herbs also offer whitening and spot-reducing effects.

Grind into Powder
After gathering the ingredients, grind the chunks and slices into powder. Some may prefer grinding each herb separately to avoid mixing effects. For convenience, grinding them together is acceptable, but ensure thorough mixing afterward.
Most pharmacies have grinding machines. If grinding at home is inconvenient, ask the pharmacy to process the ingredients for you. Inform the staff that it's for a face mask and request multiple grinding passes to achieve a sufficiently fine powder.
Mix and Apply
Take several grams of each herbal powder, add purified water to form a smooth paste, and let it sit for about 10 minutes to fully soften the herbs. Your face mask is now ready. For dry skin, add a small amount of pure milk to the mask; for oily skin, add a small amount of yogurt. If grinding all ingredients together, mix the powder thoroughly before use. Before application, cleanse your face with facial cleanser, rinse with warm water, then apply the mask evenly. After 20–30 minutes, rinse off with warm water.
Note: All ingredients are Chinese herbal medicines. Discontinue use immediately if redness, swelling, or other allergic reactions occur. Adjust application frequency based on individual skin sensitivity.
Less than 60 yuan for two months' supply
When purchasing ingredients at the pharmacy, white stiff silkworm pupae were sold out. Therefore, 100 grams each of the other six herbs were bought, totaling 58.6 yuan. All ingredients were then combined and ground into a fine powder using a traditional Chinese medicine grinder.
Each mask requires a small bowlful of the powder, sufficient for three people. Used every three days, the batch lasted approximately two months. On average, about 30 grams per application is needed.
The mask has a distinct herbal scent. While initially unpleasant, the odor becomes tolerable with prolonged exposure.Initially, the reporter used purified water, which dried quickly on the skin. Adding a small amount of honey significantly improved this issue. After rinsing off the mask, the skin felt soft and smooth. Generally, herbal masks take time to show results. After six or seven applications, acne scars and dark spots began to fade. By the tenth use, the skin appeared noticeably brighter.
