A face covered in acne can be unsettling and detract from one's appearance. After trying numerous methods without success, discouragement sets in. Laser acne treatment can help both men and women overcome this concern, but proper post-treatment care is essential to maintain long-lasting results.
Precautions for Laser Acne Treatment
1. Apply an anti-inflammatory ointment (e.g., erythromycin ointment, chlortetracycline ointment, or Bactroban) to the treated area twice daily for 2-3 days to prevent infection. Avoid excessive application, as this may hinder scab formation.
2. During recovery, avoid exposing the treated area to water, skin care products, makeup, or rubbing.
3. Refrain from strenuous exercise to prevent excessive sweating, which may cause skin infection or delay healing.
4. Avoid photosensitive foods and medications during treatment.
5. Scabs typically fall off naturally within 7-10 days. Do not peel them off manually, as this may cause pigmentation or scarring.
6. Due to individual differences, some may experience temporary hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation in treated areas. These transient changes will gradually resolve within 1-3 months, though in rare cases may take up to 9 months or longer. If necessary, take oral Vitamin C or Vitamin E supplements, or apply topical hydroquinone cream or L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C).
7. During recovery after laser acne treatment, prioritize sun protection. Apply sunscreen and use a sun umbrella when outdoors.
