After the breastfeeding period, babies should begin weaning. But what should mothers do when experiencing engorgement during weaning? Have new mothers ever been troubled by engorgement during this process?
I. Managing Engorgement During Weaning
1. Take vitamin B6, 200mg per dose, three times daily for three consecutive days.(Suitable for the period after lactation begins and before weaning)
2. Boil 50-100 grams of roasted barley malt in water and drink the decoction once daily for 3 consecutive days. (Suitable for the early postpartum period and before weaning)
3. Take 3-5 milligrams of ethyltestosterone orally three times daily for 5 consecutive days.(Suitable for 1-2 days postpartum, before significant milk production)
To minimize engorgement during weaning, new mothers should follow proper weaning techniques.
II. Proper Weaning Methods
1. Weaning should be planned gradually. After 6 months, increase complementary food frequency slowly—starting small, progressing from thin to thick, soft to firm—while reducing breastfeeding sessions.Spring or autumn are ideal weaning seasons, as the climate is mild and food sources are abundant. Summer's heat increases food spoilage risks and may trigger intestinal infections, while winter's cold makes infants more susceptible to illness and complicates nighttime feedings. If the child turns one during summer or winter, weaning should be advanced or delayed accordingly. Weaning should also be postponed if the child is ill.
2. By 6 months of age, gradually introduce complementary foods to lay the groundwork for weaning.
