Winter arrives, temperatures plummet, and layers of clothing multiply. Yet even bundled up, the chill persists. Is there a way to overcome this fear of the cold? Here, China Wellness Network shares a few strategies to help you...
First, adopt the right mindset. The colder the weather, the more we must refuse to be intimidated mentally. Instead, we should confront the challenge head-on, first overcoming the cold at the psychological level. In truth, this is already half the battle won. Conversely, the more we shrink back in fear of the cold, the more relentlessly it will torment us. Therefore, we must first win this psychological battle.
Second, stick to early morning exercise.
Each day, rise between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m. – no sleeping in. After washing with cold water, put on workout clothes and sneakers. Head outdoors for a light jog or walk (avoid intense exercise). After about half an hour, you'll feel a gentle warmth and start sweating – this achieves the goal of building cold resistance. However, it is crucial not to remove outer layers due to perspiration at this point, as doing so greatly increases the risk of catching a cold.
Third, drink a cup of warm water after exercise.
Having sweated during exercise, your body's organs are now dehydrated and in need of rehydration. Drinking a cup of water at this time allows for rapid absorption. Avoid cold water, as your elevated body temperature makes it highly detrimental to the kidneys, spleen, and stomach.
Fourth, commute by walking or cycling whenever possible. This depends on your workplace distance. If feasible, prioritize walking or cycling. This significantly enhances physical fitness and cold resistance. Conversely, daily car commutes greatly diminish your body's ability to withstand cold.
Fifth, develop the habit of drinking ginger water
Ginger contains essential nutrients for the human body, particularly proteins, vitamins, and antibacterial components. It greatly enhances the body's overall resistance to cold. Ginger is most suitable for consumption in the morning and afternoon. Avoid eating ginger in the evening, as it can cause significant harm to the body.
Sixth, soak your feet in hot water nightly
Traditional Chinese medicine regards the feet as the body's second heart. Consistent nightly foot soaks in hot water unblocks meridians, promotes qi and blood circulation, and strengthens foundational vitality. Adding ginger slices to the water enhances the effect.
Finally, regular body massage is essential
Focus on highly sensitive areas like the ears, fingers, waist, feet, and scalp. Consistent massage in these zones promotes excellent blood circulation, thereby enhancing the body's cold resistance.
