Many people are unfamiliar with the symptoms of acute urticaria. So how can one self-diagnose based on images of acute urticaria symptoms? This is essential knowledge for many individuals. Below, we present images of acute urticaria symptoms to aid in diagnosis.
Acute urticaria, also known as hives or wind rash, is a common clinical condition characterized by sudden onset. Typically, within one to two hours of exposure to an allergen, patients develop widespread, itchy, red welts across their body—this is acute urticaria.
Symptoms of acute urticaria typically involve sudden onset of widespread itching. Scratching may cause hives of varying sizes to appear. These hives can merge into large patches or form map-like patterns.Acute cases often present as red, swollen patches. Some acute lesions may develop vesicles or bullae, termed bullous urticaria, while others may exhibit central purpura, known as purpuric urticaria.
Mucous membranes may also be affected, causing lip swelling or pharyngeal swelling that leads to laryngeal edema, resulting in respiratory distress or even asphyxia. Skin lesions often subside within hours but recur repeatedly as new lesions emerge. Severe, extensive hemorrhagic lesions may resolve within days.
Systemic fever may occur, generally below 39°C (102.2°F). If exceeding 39°C, monitor for acute suppurative infection or sepsis. Respiratory symptoms may include wheezing and dyspnea, while abdominal pain or epigastric distension may occur.
Some may also experience diarrhea. Patients with severe generalized urticaria may exhibit symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and chest tightness. In extremely rare cases, shock reactions may occur, requiring prompt treatment. Most patients only experience the itching associated with the hives without other symptoms.
