In recent years, young people opting for cosmetic surgery to secure better job opportunities is no longer uncommon. However, as the cosmetic surgery industry continues to grow, some unscrupulous individuals exploit people's desire for beauty and eagerness to find work to scam them out of money. Recently, Xiao Wu from Hangzhou was taken to a cosmetic surgery clinic for procedures during an interview for a club attendant position. Even more outrageously, after spending 60,000 yuan on the surgery, she still didn't get the job.
Xiao Wu, 19, interviewed for a hostess position at a club in July with a promised daily wage of 600 yuan. Manager Wang claimed her appearance was unsuitable and insisted she undergo surgery before starting work, subsequently taking her to a cosmetic clinic.
At the clinic, under Manager Wang's arrangement, Xiao Wu underwent hyaluronic acid fillers for her nose, chin, and temples, totaling 60,000 yuan. A cosmetic surgery installment loan was arranged using her personal information.
After the procedures, Manager Wang instructed Xiao Wu to rest for two weeks. However, upon her return, he rejected her job application again, citing her appearance as the reason.
Afterward, Manager Wang denied linking Xiao Wu's employment to the cosmetic surgery and denied any partnership with the clinic. Following the incident's exposure, Xiao Wu's uncle contacted the media stating the clinic had refunded them 50,000 yuan. Both parties also signed an agreement stipulating that upon receiving this refund, Xiao Wu would waive any future claims against the clinic.
Though Xiao Wu returned most of the money—effectively paying 10,000 yuan for a lesson—it remains unclear whether the club genuinely sought employees or merely used high-paying positions as a front to recruit clients for the plastic surgery clinic. Aspiring patients are advised to stay vigilant when job hunting and only sign contracts for cosmetic procedures after confirming their own desire for the surgery, to avoid future regrets.
