Choose a cleanser suited to your skin type: gel cleansers for oily skin, foaming cleansers for normal/combination skin, and hydrating cleansers for dry skin. Targeted solutions exist for other skin concerns. Never leave cleanser on skin longer than 3 minutes; rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Step 2: Apply Foundation
If time permits, begin with a hydrating mask to enhance skin radiance. Select a foundation shade matching your skin tone.Apply foundation evenly across the face using a foundation brush, sweeping gently back and forth to avoid streaks. Imagine creating countless tiny "X" marks on the skin. After using the brush, lightly press a sponge over the entire face to distribute the foundation more evenly. This creates a natural, translucent finish that makes skin appear refined. The result is a sheer, effortless look without any heavy or artificial feel.
Step 3: Apply pressed or loose powder (for setting)
Setting is crucial. Fold a dry powder puff to pick up an appropriate amount of loose powder, then rub it evenly. Tap off excess powder with your fingers before pressing it gently onto the skin. Use a large makeup brush to sweep away any remaining powder, paying special attention to oil-prone areas like the corners of the eyes, sides of the nose, and corners of the mouth.
Good setting powder not only sets makeup and absorbs shine but also provides secondary refinement.
Step 4: Eyebrow Shaping
Eyebrow shaping requires technique. Generally follow the principle of light brows at the start, deeper arch, high peak, and defined tail—though adjust based on your natural brow shape.
Step 5: Apply Eyeliner
Hold the mirror 20cm away from your face and look downward. Gently lift your eyelid with your ring finger. Starting at the outer corner, trace along the lash line toward the inner corner in short strokes. Extend the line slightly at the outer corner. Use an eyeliner brush to blend the line from inner to outer corner for a natural, defined finish.Blending the eyeliner with a brush is absolutely essential—this step prevents a harsh, unnatural look. If you have monolids or oily inner corners, opt for eyeliner gel. Gel offers better longevity than pencil or powder, and compared to liquid liner, it's less rigid, easier to blend, and more forgiving.
The basic rule is to apply upper liner starting from the outer two-thirds of the eye, and lower liner covering the inner half. Some choose to skip lower liner entirely.
Step 6: Define Lip Contour
Defining lip lines is crucial before applying lipstick (matching your outfit). Bright lip colors must be applied with a lip brush.
Step 7: Apply Blush
Since eyeshadow anchors the visual focus, keep blush and lip color subtle. Choose blush shades similar to your lip gloss or eyeshadow. Sometimes blush can double as eyeshadow.
