After laser treatment, sun protection is crucial. How can we safely navigate the recovery period?
1. Minimize sun exposure post-treatment. Wear hats and sunglasses outdoors, use sun umbrellas in summer, and avoid outdoor activities between 10 AM and 4 PM during summer months.
2. Apply sunscreen when outdoors. With so many sunscreen products available, how should you choose?First, understand ultraviolet rays. UV rays reaching Earth's surface include UVA (wavelength 320-400nm) and UVB (wavelength 290-320nm). Of the UV rays that penetrate the ozone layer, UVA accounts for approximately 99%,while UVB makes up about 1%. UVA penetrates deeper into the skin than UVB. Regardless of the season, the energy of UVA in sunlight is 30-100 times higher than that of UVB and remains nearly constant throughout the day. Therefore, most modern sunscreens on the market are broad-spectrum, offering protection against both UVA and UVB rays.Next, let's examine how to assess a sunscreen's effectiveness. UVB protection is measured by the SPF value, while UVA protection is rated by the PA value. After laser treatment, use sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ and a PA rating of + during summer. In winter, an SPF of 15-25 and a PA rating of + is sufficient. Apply daily. For activities like travel or swimming, choose sunscreens with high water resistance.
Of course, even after successfully completing the laser recovery period, we recommend year-round sun protection. Sunlight's ultraviolet rays remain the primary culprit behind photoaging of our skin.
