Fetal Development at 22 Weeks Pregnant
At 22 weeks, the fetus measures approximately 19 cm in length and weighs 350 grams.
At this stage, the fetus begins to gain weight significantly and already resembles a small baby. Due to its still relatively small size, the baby's skin remains wrinkled and reddish. These folds also provide space for the growth of subcutaneous fat.The 22-week fetus appears smooth, covered in a white, slippery substance known as vernix.
Vernix protects the skin from damage caused by prolonged immersion in amniotic fluid. Many babies are still coated with this substance at birth. Additionally, the baby's teeth begin developing at this stage, primarily the tooth buds for permanent teeth.
