Pregnant women with large bellies find washing their hair inconvenient. Showering requires bending over, which is uncomfortable, and standing too long is tiring. Bathing in a tub risks bacterial vaginal infections and is unsuitable for pregnant women. To avoid pressure on the abdomen, pregnant women need to adjust their hair-washing posture and method.
When washing hair, expectant mothers should use a massaging motion instead of scratching the scalp with fingernails. Simply knead or gently pat the entire scalp. Placing a small stool in the bathtub allows sitting while washing, keeping the body out of the water for greater comfort.Pregnant women with long hair should sit in a chair with a backrest and have a family member rinse their hair. If this seems too troublesome, consider cutting hair short for a cleaner, easier wash. Those with short hair can simply sit on a chair at a comfortable height that allows knees to bend at a 90-degree angle, leaning forward to wash hair slowly.
If the expectant father is available, he can certainly assist. The expectant mother can recline on a lounge chair while he washes her hair. This is a simple task for him, not only solving the challenge of washing her hair but also creating a wonderful opportunity for the couple to bond and express affection during the process.
Additionally, getting your hair washed at a salon is a convenient and effortless solution. Not only does it eliminate the need for the expectant mother to bend over while washing her hair, but she can also enjoy a relaxing massage from the staff. However, for safety reasons, it's best for the expectant mother to bring her own regular shampoo to the salon.
Choosing Shampoo
Expectant mothers should select a mild shampoo suited to their hair type to avoid irritating the scalp. If hormonal changes haven't significantly altered hair texture, the shampoo used before pregnancy can generally be continued.
Some expectant mothers experience dry, brittle hair during pregnancy due to protein deficiency. Using protein-enriched shampoo and conditioner can improve hair texture.
Post-Wash Care for Wet Hair
Leaving the house or going to bed with wet hair is uncomfortable and increases the risk of catching a cold.Using a hair dryer raises concerns about radiation exposure, and some dryers emit hot air that may be harmful to both the mother and fetus. If a dryer is necessary, always use the cool setting, avoid hot air, and never hold the dryer too close to the scalp. Instead, pregnant women can use hygienic, soft drying caps or towels. These absorb water quickly, offer good breathability, and dry hair efficiently.
