Brown discharge during pregnancy indicates threatened miscarriage. Visiting the hospital for pregnancy-sustaining medication usually resolves it. I had a severe case and took over ten boxes of such medication—ugh, thinking about it now makes me queasy. Plus, before discovering my pregnancy, I was skipping rope and taking Chinese herbal medicine... so nerve-wracking! Thank goodness my baby is healthy. As long as you rest adequately, you'll be fine too.
What causes brown discharge during pregnancy?
1. Infection
Poor menstrual hygiene or using contaminated sanitary products can easily lead to pathogen infections, causing brown vaginal discharge. Common infections include trichomoniasis, yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and fungal infections.Brown discharge during pregnancy can stem from various infections causing female inflammation, such as vulvitis and vaginitis. When treating inflammation caused by bacterial factors, both partners should undergo treatment to prevent cross-infection.
2. Cervicitis
Delivery tears, hormonal changes, or sexual activity can cause cervical inflammation, potentially leading to cervical erosion and increased brown discharge. The most common form is chronic cervicitis, such as cervical erosion. Cervical erosion is the most prevalent type of cervicitis in women and should be the primary consideration. Fortunately, cervical erosion is treatable. Currently, physical therapy demonstrates highly effective results for all degrees of cervical erosion, making it arguably the optimal treatment method.
3. Brown discharge during pregnancy and ovulation bleeding
Brown discharge around ovulation is typically due to ovulation bleeding. Women experiencing this need not worry, as it usually resolves within two to three days. However, prolonged ovulation bleeding that doesn't subside may indicate other gynecological issues such as cervical erosion, uterine polyps, or cervical cancer.
