During the first month of conception, expectant mothers typically don't feel the arrival of new life. However, there are some important signs that may alert women they might be pregnant and about to become mothers. So what are the early signs of pregnancy?
What are the early signs of pregnancy?
1. Missed Period
A missed period is the most obvious sign of pregnancy. Generally, if your period is over a week late, you should consider the possibility of pregnancy and visit a hospital for a urine HCG test to confirm. After one month, doctors can usually detect pregnancy indicators, making confirmation easier.
In rare cases, some women may experience one or two light periods at their expected menstrual date despite being pregnant. This is known as "spotting" in traditional Chinese medicine, characterized by lighter flow and shorter duration than usual. The small bumps on the dark yellow areola around the nipple become more prominent. These changes are particularly noticeable in first-time mothers.
3. Frequent Urination
Many pregnant women experience frequent urination in early pregnancy, sometimes as often as once per hour. This is caused by the enlarged uterus pressing on the bladder. After three months of pregnancy, as the uterus grows larger and moves beyond the pelvis, this symptom typically resolves on its own.
4. Morning Sickness
Some women experience changes in appetite shortly after a missed period (around two weeks). Common symptoms include nausea, acid reflux, loss of appetite, and picky eating, often occurring upon waking. Some feel utterly unable to eat or even vomit, while others crave sour foods. These symptoms, known as morning sickness, typically subside naturally within two weeks to a month.
5. Elevated Body Temperature
Basal body temperature refers to the temperature measured after at least 6 hours of sleep, upon waking without moving, eating, or engaging in activity. This serves as an indicator for pregnancy. In women with regular menstrual cycles, basal body temperature rises by approximately 0.5°C after ovulation and remains elevated until the next menstrual period begins. After conception, the influence of pregnancy progesterone on the body's temperature regulation center causes the temperature to remain elevated without dropping.
Hey everyone, now you know the early signs of pregnancy! If you experience these symptoms, there's a high chance you're pregnant—head to the hospital for a checkup soon!
