At 14 weeks pregnant, you have entered the second trimester. At this stage, your baby will display many vivid facial expressions inside your womb. I. Fetal Development at 14 Weeks Your baby can now perform many actions inside you, such as frowning, making faces, squinting, and possibly sucking their thumb. Scientific studies show these movements promote brain development.
By this week, your baby measures approximately 9 cm from head to rump and weighs about 30–43 grams. All major body structures are now formed, though still minuscule. The baby's top-heavy posture gradually improves, fingerprints appear on fingers, and other organs continue rapid development. Body parts now grow faster than the head, while the neck supporting the head becomes more defined. Your little one is quite active now—so small they can easily turn within a space the size of a goose egg.
As the second trimester arrives, constipation—one of pregnancy's most troublesome symptoms—begins to appear. How can it be relieved?
II. Methods to Relieve Pregnancy Constipation
1. Establish a Morning Bowel Routine: Set a consistent time for bowel movements, ideally upon waking or after breakfast. Since colonic peristalsis is most active after breakfast, the hour following breakfast is the optimal time for elimination.Do not ignore the urge to go, and never force yourself to hold it in. Crucially, avoid prolonged sitting on the toilet, as this increases abdominal pressure and impedes blood flow in the lower limbs. 2. Increase physical activity: Regular movement enhances gastrointestinal motility. Adequate sleep, maintaining a positive mood, and reducing stress are also effective ways to alleviate constipation.
3. Maintain a relaxed mindset: Stay calm during bowel movements. Avoid tension even if evacuation doesn't occur, as stress can worsen constipation.
4. Adopt a balanced diet: Avoid spicy foods and prioritize fiber-rich options like apples, radishes, other vegetables, bananas, honey, and legumes.
