How Effective Is Korean Eyebrow Lift Surgery?

This procedure involves excising portions of the eyebrow and surrounding skin; in severe cases, the entire eyebrow is removed. The rise of eyebrow excision is linked to another "trend" from years past: eyebrow tattooing. Back then, regardless of age, natural brow shape, or density, tattooed eyebrows were considered fashionable—though they also left many with lasting regrets.
The uneven quality of eyebrow tattooing techniques resulted in many people ending up with eyebrows resembling "dragon eyebrows," "earthworm eyebrows," "silkworm eyebrows," or "faded eyebrows." Eyebrow reduction surgery can improve these to varying degrees. Consequently, many individuals opt for partial eyebrow reduction.Simultaneously, eyebrow trimming provides a direct lifting effect, rejuvenating the entire facial appearance. In this sense, it achieves two goals at once.
Direct eyebrow lifting to rejuvenate the eye area has long been popular in the West. This involves excising a strip of skin along the upper edge of the eyebrow and suturing the brow upward to lift the tail. In contrast, indirect eyebrow lifting uses a small incision at the hairline to elevate the eyebrow, leaving no visible scar in the brow area—making it particularly suitable for Asian features.
Complete Brow Removal
Primarily indicated for cases where repeated eyebrow tattoo removal has caused scarring across the entire brow area, resulting in sparse hair growth or persistent tattoo pigment (typically light brown or dark blue). This often manifests as thick, dark lines resembling caterpillars across the orbital rim, where laser removal fails to eliminate the color.Complete eyebrow excision is necessary. To achieve a scarless outcome, precise incision placement is crucial, ensuring any minor scarring is concealed within the future eyebrow tattoo or makeup area. Depending on the degree of upper eyelid and lateral canthus skin laxity, excess skin from the upper eyelid and temporal region may be appropriately excised.
Currently, excision is performed at the superficial subcutaneous layer of the brow area, avoiding damage to the deep supraorbital nerve and vascular bundles to prevent long-term numbness in the scalp and forehead. Suturing employs imported absorbable sutures under the skin, with dermal closure. The incision surface is sealed with adhesive tape, resulting in extremely inconspicuous postoperative scarring. This represents the most ideal technique for brow reduction surgery.Eyebrow makeup can be applied 8 days post-surgery, with permanent eyebrow tattooing recommended 1-3 months later.
Subbrow Resection
Suitable for individuals with overly high tattooed eyebrows or lax upper eyelid skin. An incision approximately 1mm below the eyebrow margin is made. The incision design and range of excess skin removal are determined based on the desired eyebrow lowering and the degree of upper eyelid laxity. Different skin resection patterns are designed for the inner, middle, and outer areas of the lax upper eyelid. After removing excess skin, subcutaneous and dermal layers are sutured with imported absorbable sutures, while the skin surface is closed using adhesive bonding technology.
Suitable for individuals with upper eyelid skin laxity and normal eyebrow structure/shape but positioned too low. The incision is designed 1mm above the eyebrow margin. The shape, size of skin removal above the eyebrow, and partial eyebrow removal are determined based on skin laxity and eyebrow descent.
Brow Lift with Superficial Skin Resection
Suitable for individuals with upper eyelid skin laxity and normal eyebrow structure/shape, but with eyebrows positioned too low. The incision is designed 1mm above the eyebrow margin. The shape, size of skin to be removed, and partial eyebrow excision are determined based on the degree of skin laxity and eyebrow ptosis.
Mid-Brow Cross Resection
Suitable for drooping outer eyebrows, downward-shifted outer canthi, and laxity in the lateral upper eyelid skin—sometimes presenting as triangular eyes. Also indicated for individuals with scarring or hyperpigmentation at the outer brow region, while the brow head and mid-brow area maintain normal shape and position. This procedure achieves dual benefits through a scarless lateral brow excision: it removes excess lateral upper eyelid skin to correct laxity, elevates the outer canthus, eliminates temporal wrinkles, rejuvenates the eye area and face, and improves brow shape.
