KaiKai Sea Cucumber now presents the most detailed soaking instructions through step-by-step photos and text, ensuring hassle-free preparation. What we achieve, you can achieve too. First, prepare tools: purified water or mineral water, and absolutely oil-free containers.
Soak the dried sea cucumbers in cool water to soften them. Place them in pure or mineral water at room temperature within an oil-free container for 24 hours, changing the water every 8 hours. After 24 hours: The sea cucumbers will have expanded. Crucially, avoid any contact with oil or impurities, as this will compromise the quality of the rehydration. Remember this point carefully. The purpose of Step 1
is to soften the sea cucumbers. After 24 hours, lift them out and squeeze gently. If they yield completely with no hard lumps remaining, Step 1 is complete. If any hardness persists, continue soaking until fully softened.
?Soaking sea cucumbers often seems daunting, but it's actually straightforward—just follow the method step by step. Moreover, the process doesn't take much time at all. After completing Step 1: Begin gutting. Use oil-free scissors to cut along the sea cucumber's natural opening. Remove the sand mouth: After cutting open, remove the sand mouth and teeth. The circle indicates the sand mouth's location. The sand mouth and teeth resemble limestone; simply scrape them out by hand.
Step 2: Boiling. After cleaning the sea cucumber, place it in a pot of purified water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low heat. Cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes. After boiling, turn off the heat and let it steep covered for 2 hours. This completes the second step.
Step 3: Ice Water Soak: The purpose of the ice water soak is to help the sea cucumbers expand better. Sea cucumbers shrink in heat and expand in cold... quite a marvelous thing. Transfer the steamed sea cucumbers to fresh purified water with ice cubes and place them in the refrigerator's fresh food compartment. This is the so-called constant-temperature zone (not the freezer). If ice cubes are unavailable, simply place them in the refrigerator's cold storage compartment.
Hot Water Soak: Soak in ice water for 24-48 hours, changing the water every 8 hours. You'll be amazed to see the sea cucumbers gradually expanding! After soaking, drain thoroughly. Wrap each sea cucumber individually in plastic wrap and freeze. When ready to eat, simply thaw in cold water and prepare as desired—quick and convenient!
