Salt's primary component is sodium chloride. Sodium retention increases extracellular fluid volume, elevates cardiac output, and raises blood pressure. Therefore, hypertensive patients should limit salt intake.
4. Hypertensive patients should avoid spicy foods
Spicy and refined foods can cause dry, hard stools, leading to constipation. Straining during bowel movements increases abdominal pressure, causing sudden blood pressure spikes that may trigger cerebral hemorrhage. Therefore, spicy and refined foods are prohibited for hypertensive patients.
5. Hypertensive patients should avoid high-calorie foods
High-calorie foods (glucose, sucrose, chocolate, etc.) can induce obesity, and obese individuals have a higher incidence of hypertension than those of normal weight. Hypertension is often accompanied by overweight or obesity. Therefore, patients with this condition should limit high-calorie foods in their diet.
