During winter, some hypertension patients are prone to relapse. Therefore, we must take extra precautions. Especially when bathing, the significant temperature change can easily trigger a recurrence due to their physical limitations. So, what should hypertension patients pay attention to when bathing in winter?
Experts advise that whether bathing in hot springs or at home, avoid soaking for too long and always prioritize safety precautions.
When bathing, water temperature should not exceed 37-41°C (99-106°F). Drink one cup of warm water beforehand to replenish blood volume. Elderly individuals must avoid bathing on an empty stomach, immediately after heavy meals, or after alcohol consumption. Also refrain from bathing during fever or elevated body temperature.
Safety awareness is crucial. For instance, elderly individuals with hypertension or heart disease should bathe in the presence of another person. Bathroom doors should remain unlocked, and anti-slip measures should be installed to prevent falls.
For hypertensive patients, family members should pay closer attention when they engage in social activities that could pose significant health risks, minimizing potential harm during episodes. If you have a hypertensive patient at home, always keep blood pressure medication readily available for emergencies.
