To ensure your baby's health and hygiene, parents should bathe their child regularly. However, carelessness can easily lead to colds. When bathing your child, pay attention to these six details to keep them from catching a chill. Maintaining good personal hygiene helps reduce illnesses.
To prevent colds during bath time, note these six key points:
1. Ensure your baby stays warm during bath time. Maintaining a stable and comfortable room temperature is crucial. A suitable room temperature is key to preventing colds during bathing. Aim for a stable indoor temperature around 27°C (81°F). For newborns, it's best to raise the temperature by 1°C-2°C (18°F-36°F).
2. While there are various bathing methods, using a tub bath is recommended to prevent colds.Use a basin bath whenever possible, with water level above the baby's abdomen and below the shoulders. Place a towel at the bottom of the basin to prevent slipping.
3. Water temperature is critical for preventing colds during bathing. Ensure the water is neither too cold nor too hot, ideally around 38°C (98.6°F). Use a thermometer for precise measurement whenever possible. If no thermometer is available, parents can test the water temperature on the back of their hand or wrist—it should feel warm but not hot. Note that hot water should be added as needed during the bath. 4. Babies have low resistance due to their young age, so heating equipment should be prepared for bath time. Install a bathroom heater or other waterproof heating device to ensure the baby stays warm after exiting the water.
5. Drying clothes is essential after bathing to prevent colds. Prepare towels and extra clothing beforehand. Keep these items near a heater to warm them, ensuring the baby stays warm while dressing.
6. Parents should ensure the baby is thoroughly dried and wrapped before leaving the bathroom. This is because temperatures outside the bathroom are relatively lower. After bathing, dry the baby completely inside the bathroom and wrap them in a towel before exiting.
However, various situations in daily life can still lead to babies catching colds during bath time. It's important to know some prevention and treatment methods. Since medication isn't suitable for treating colds in babies,
the following dietary remedies can be used:
(1) Scallion and Black Bean Soup. 2 scallion whites, 1g black beans.Add to a bowl of water, bring to a boil with the fermented black beans for about 3 minutes, then add the scallion whites and remove from heat. Drink while hot. After drinking, cover with a blanket to induce a slight sweat.
(2) Ginger, Scallion, and Brown Sugar Drink. 5–10 grams of ginger, 3–5 scallion whites, and an appropriate amount of brown sugar. Simmer all three ingredients for about 5 minutes, then drink the liquid frequently while hot. After drinking, lie down in bed, cover with a blanket, and induce a slight sweat. The above two recipes are used for wind-cold colds.
(3) Double Flower Drink. 20g honeysuckle, 5g hawthorn, 20g honey. Place honeysuckle and hawthorn in an aluminum pot with sufficient water. Bring to a vigorous boil for 3 minutes. Strain the liquid into a cup. Add water and boil once more. Combine both decoctions, add honey, and stir until well blended. Drink as needed.
Parents with young children must prioritize preventing colds after baths, as this is extremely common and widespread in daily life, causing significant discomfort for babies. Parents should therefore be vigilant, adopting preventive awareness and measures. Only then can babies stay healthy and grow happily. Otherwise, catching a cold after every bath would be unbearable!
