Vaginal discharge is an odorless, slightly acidic, viscous fluid secreted by the female vagina. It serves to moisturize the vaginal canal, expel waste, and kill pathogens. So what causes insufficient vaginal discharge? Generally, it is often due to chronic diseases or ovarian function decline.
Clinical manifestations of insufficient vaginal discharge:
Vaginal discharge is an odorless, slightly acidic, viscous fluid secreted by the female vagina. Adequate discharge is a normal physiological phenomenon, typically appearing as a translucent, egg-white-like substance. It serves to moisturize the vagina, expel waste, and eliminate pathogens. The volume of normal vaginal discharge in women is usually related to physiological factors such as the menstrual cycle and sexual activity.A significant reduction or absence of discharge may lead to symptoms such as vaginal dryness, burning pain, decreased libido, discomfort or difficulty during intercourse, accompanied by dizziness, tinnitus, weakness in the lower limbs, and restlessness. Prolonged low discharge weakens the vagina's self-defense mechanisms, increasing susceptibility to vaginitis.
Causes of low vaginal discharge:
Generally, insufficient discharge stems from ovarian dysfunction or decline, coupled with low sex hormone levels. This is common in women with multiple abortions, prolonged breastfeeding, chronic psychological trauma, or chronic illnesses such as chronic hepatitis, chronic nephritis, diabetes, or hypothyroidism. After entering menopause, gradual ovarian atrophy and loss of function can also cause insufficient discharge.
Treatment principles for scant vaginal discharge:
Scant discharge requires active treatment. For cases stemming from chronic diseases, concurrently address the underlying condition while strengthening overall health. Ensure adequate protein and vitamin intake to enhance hormone secretion. For other causes of reduced discharge, intermittent vaginal application of estrogen ointment may be employed.
Important Reminder:
Vaginal discharge serves as a mirror reflecting women's health and should never be ignored. Regularly observe your discharge patterns, and seek prompt treatment if abnormalities arise.
