Vaginal discharge is a normal secretion from the female vagina. Its volume fluctuates throughout a woman's menstrual cycle in response to hormonal changes. So what causes sudden increases in discharge? If this occurs after estrogen medication use, it is generally normal. However, it may also indicate an underlying condition.
Under normal circumstances, increased vaginal discharge in healthy women correlates directly with elevated estrogen levels. Examples include discharge increases during ovulation, pregnancy, or after estrogen medication use—all considered normal. However, if discharge increases and appears abnormal, conditions like vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), or cervicitis should be considered.
Numerous treatment options exist for abnormal discharge, with the following two being common:
1. Topical creams: Applying clotrimazole cream or miconazole cream externally can treat vulvitis caused by fungal infections, alleviating symptoms like itching and pain. Apply several times daily for a full two weeks.Yifuqing Ointment, primarily containing econazole with a small amount of topical steroid, provides excellent itch relief and is particularly suitable for those suffering from unbearable itching and pain due to fungal vulvitis or vaginitis. Apply to the vulva once in the morning and once in the evening.
2. General treatment: Actively treat other conditions that may trigger fungal vaginitis and eliminate predisposing factors.Maintain vulvar cleanliness and dryness; avoid scratching. Refrain from sexual intercourse during treatment. Avoid spicy or irritating foods.
