Vaginal discharge reflects overall health through its odor, color, volume, and consistency. Abnormal discharge harms women's bodies. Any unusual color indicates an abnormality, warranting serious attention. So what is normal discharge color? Physicians explain that discharge consists of secretions from the cervix, uterine body, and vaginal exudate.Normal discharge should be milky white or clear and colorless, with a slight fishy odor or no odor at all.
Physicians caution: Abnormal discharge color may signal gynecological issues.
(1) Yellow or yellow-green discharge with a foul odor (fishy smell), increased volume, pus-like consistency with bubbles, accompanied by vulvar itching. Commonly seen in trichomoniasis.
(2) Yellow, increased, thick, and pus-like discharge, sometimes with a small amount of blood, accompanied by lower abdominal distension and pain, backache, and in severe cases, bleeding afterward. Commonly seen in chronic cervicitis.
(3) Brown, watery discharge with a musty odor may indicate vaginitis or be caused by an intrauterine device (IUD).
(4) Blood-tinged discharge, varying in amount, warrants vigilance for conditions like cervical polyps or acute vaginitis.
