As the New Year approaches, days of feasting and indulgence are upon us, inevitably bringing greasy foods. The arrival of fruit feels like a savior. One moment we hear that eating fruit before meals aids weight loss, the next that consuming it on an empty stomach harms the stomach, and then that eating fruit after meals aids digestion!
Honestly, it's exhausting!
So when exactly is the best time to eat fruit for digestion? When won't it harm your stomach?
The answer is straightforward: if you have no pre-existing stomach issues or blood sugar concerns, when is eating fruit healthy?Does eating fruit on an empty stomach hurt your stomach? This concern mainly stems from worries that fruit's tannins and high acidity could damage the stomach! But in reality, if you don't have excessive stomach acid issues and avoid eating tannin-rich fruits like persimmons on an empty stomach, there's absolutely no need to worry about it hurting your stomach! Does eating fruit after meals affect digestion?
Rumors suggest eating fruit after meals traps it in the stomach with previous food, causing bloating or constipation! But in reality, as long as you're not overeating and consuming large quantities of fruit, it's not nearly as severe.Fruits are primarily composed of water and sugars, which are absorbed more efficiently than proteins and fats!
Does eating fruit at night accumulate toxins?
Rumors claim that fruit eaten at night isn't digested, leading to toxin buildup and increased strain on the stomach and liver.
This claim is completely unfounded. Digestive capacity depends on intestinal motility, not meal timing. If daytime work schedules make fruit inconvenient, feel free to enjoy it in the evening.
Recommendation: There are no strict restrictions on when to eat fruit. Listen to your body and follow habits that suit your lifestyle!
Morning: Since most people don't prioritize breakfast, why not enjoy an orange or apple during breakfast or mid-morning?
Between meals: When hunger or drowsiness strikes, reach for fruit instead of high-calorie snacks like bubble tea, cookies, or cake. Fruit satisfies hunger while preventing overeating!
While fruit is nutritious, overeating can lead to weight gain.
We all know fruit is packed with vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and health-boosting antioxidants like polyphenols and flavonoids. But like any food, eating too much can cause weight gain!
Many people mistakenly believe fruit won't make them fat,So many people let their guard down and indulge freely!
The Chinese Dietary Guidelines recommend consuming 200-350 grams of fresh fruit daily. This weight refers to the edible portion, excluding peels and pits!
Simply put, this is roughly equivalent to one medium-sized apple plus one tangerine! If you're eating cut fruit, limit it to no more than one lunchbox-sized portion per day! Of course, if you really love fruit, you can eat more, but balance it by reducing your portion of staple foods!
What's the best fruit to eat?
As for which fruit is best? This isn't something you need to worry about too much. Different fruits have their own nutritional strengths and unique flavors! Just choose based on your personal preference!
Recommendation:Buy seasonal fruits, mix it up based on your tastes! The reason I don't recommend off-season fruits isn't because they're unhealthy—it's because they're expensive!
If you don't like eating fruit, can you drink juice instead?
I don't recommend this method. Juicing causes some nutrients and antioxidants to be lost, and even high-end juicers can't avoid this!Plus, juice lacks the concentrated nutrients of whole fruit while retaining all its sugar and calories! For example, a single glass of freshly squeezed orange juice requires roughly 3-4 oranges! Eating just one orange can leave you feeling half-full, whereas drinking a glass of orange juice offers little satiety—yet you'll easily consume it all!
Recommendation: In a way, juice lowers the barrier to eating fruit. If consumed correctly, it can be a valid way to enjoy fruit! If you love juice, opt for homemade fruit and vegetable blends: keep fruit portions within daily limits, blend with vegetables, and consume the pulp! As for commercial juice drinks, they aren't highly recommended—most are essentially sugar water with minimal fruit content, so best avoided!
