I. Safe Use of Household Appliances
During holidays, appliances like televisions, air conditioners, electric heaters, and cooking appliances see frequent use. Neglecting proper management can easily lead to fires.
(1) Avoid plugging multiple appliances into a single outlet. This wastes electricity and poses safety risks. Overloading a single outlet with multiple devices increases electrical strain, heightening fire hazards.
(2) Avoid prolonged operation of certain appliances. Televisions and electric blankets, for instance, should not be left on for extended periods. During holidays, diverse programming may lead to prolonged use, trapping heat and potentially melting insulation, causing fires. Limit continuous high-temperature operation of electric blankets. Keep flammable materials away from electric heaters. Always unplug irons when leaving the room.
(3) Never overload electrical circuits. Regularly inspect wiring to prevent aging, short circuits, or leaks. Avoid haphazard wiring or arbitrarily adding appliances beyond capacity.
(4) When leaving home for extended periods, disconnect all indoor power sources to prevent accidents.
II. Safe Stove Usage
(1) Coal/Wood Stoves.Thoroughly inspect stoves and chimneys before the Spring Festival. Never use gasoline, kerosene, or other flammable liquids to ignite fires. Place ashes removed from coal or wood-burning stoves back into the stove pit. To prevent sparks from the stove or chimney causing fires, install fire caps or baffles on the chimney or stove openings.During windy weather, avoid using stoves located upwind. When burning coal, avoid overfilling the fire pit and do not close the chimney damper too early to prevent excessive gas buildup, which could cause explosions or carbon monoxide poisoning.
(2) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Stoves. LPG stoves must not be used in the same room as other stoves. If an LPG odor is detected indoors, immediately stop using the gas cylinder and open doors and windows.Under no circumstances should you smoke, strike matches, or operate electrical devices indoors. Close doors and windows to adjacent rooms for isolation; extinguish all ignition sources in neighboring rooms if necessary. When checking for leaks, use soapy water—never test with an open flame. To ignite, first open the angle valve, then strike a match from the side near the burner ports before turning on the stove switch. After using the stove, close the angle valve or gas supply valve before turning off the stove switch. Avoid filling pots or kettles to the brim to prevent boiling water from extinguishing the flame and causing LPG dispersion accidents. Immediately shut off both the angle valve and stove switch if abnormal incidents occur with the LPG stove.During this period, eliminate all open flames nearby, enhance indoor ventilation, and avoid using open flames or spark-producing tools.
