Abnormally Heavy and Odorous Discharge? Moderate vaginal discharge is normal, but excessive amounts indicate an issue. Doctors explain that discharge volume typically correlates with menstrual cycles and sexual activity. However, abnormal increases can occur. Is heavy discharge a disease? How is it treated? Common gynecological conditions causing excessive discharge include: 1.Cervical Erosion: After developing cervical erosion, increased, thick discharge may appear, occasionally purulent or bloody. This is often accompanied by lower back pain, abdominal pain, and a heavy sensation in the lower abdomen. Contact bleeding during intercourse may also occur, and an unpleasant odor is highly likely.
2. Vaginitis: Common symptoms include vulvar itching, increased discharge that may be milky-white mucus or pale yellow pus, occasionally mixed with blood streaks. Lower back pain and pelvic heaviness may occur, with severe cases potentially causing infertility.
3. Uterine Fibroids: Most patients exhibit no obvious symptoms and are often discovered incidentally during pelvic examinations. When symptoms occur, they commonly include heavy menstrual flow, irregular bleeding, increased vaginal discharge, lower abdominal heaviness, and frequent urination.
4. Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): Chronic PID refers to persistent inflammation of the female internal reproductive organs, surrounding connective tissues, and pelvic peritoneum. Primary clinical manifestations include menstrual irregularities, increased vaginal discharge, lower back and abdominal pain, and infertility. If chronic adnexitis has developed, palpable masses may be detected.
