I often see moms online asking, "What should I introduce first when starting solids?" Let's first understand the categories of complementary foods.
We can classify them as follows: liquid foods like fruit juice, rice water, and vegetable broth; mashed foods such as egg yolk, rice powder, vegetable puree, fruit puree, fish puree, meat puree, and egg custard; The third category includes semi-solid foods like rice porridge, noodle soup, small dumpling soup, thin noodles, steamed carrots, and steamed pumpkin. The final category comprises solid foods such as soft rice, small wontons, small dumplings, small steamed buns, and bread.
Liquid complementary foods like fruit juice and rice water can be introduced as early as 2-3 months. At 4 months, most babies start with egg yolk and rice cereal. Egg yolk can be thinned with water or rice water. Once the baby adapts, rice cereal can be mixed with egg yolk when introducing it.
