Gambling Tycoon Stanley Ho Passes Away at 98 According to Hong Kong media reports, renowned patriotic entrepreneur and former Standing Committee member of the 9th to 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Stanley Ho, passed away at Hong Kong's Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital on May 26, Beijing time, at the age of 98.
Born in Hong Kong on November 25, 1921, with ancestral roots in Guangdong, Stanley Ho came from a distinguished family background as the great-nephew of Hong Kong businessman Sir Henry Fok. His major enterprises included: Macau Gaming Holdings Limited, Melco International Development Limited, Shun Tak Holdings Limited, Macau International Airport Concession Company Limited, and Macau Sincere Bank Limited.
A pivotal figure in Macau, Ho served as a standing committee member of the 9th to 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He was received multiple times by Chinese state leaders and witnessed the Sino-British and Sino-Portuguese negotiations, as well as the return of Hong Kong and Macau to China. During his lifetime, he actively participated in economic development, cultural initiatives, and charitable causes in mainland China, making outstanding contributions to Macau's progress.
In recent years, Ho, who was over 90 years old, had been in poor health and was hospitalized for long-term recuperation, with family members taking turns to care for him daily. In February 2019, reports surfaced that his condition had worsened, and he was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU).
According to a May 25 report by Hong Kong's Oriental Daily, recent updates indicate Ho is in critical condition with a grim prognosis, prompting the hospital to notify family members to remain at his bedside.
