Obesity results from prolonged energy intake exceeding expenditure, leading to excessive fat accumulation in the body. Generally, obesity is defined as body weight exceeding the average standard weight for height by 20%, or exceeding the average standard weight for age plus two standard deviations. As living standards in China gradually improve, the incidence of childhood obesity shows an increasing trend. Obesity is associated with coronary heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions, necessitating early prevention. Most childhood obesity cases fall under the category of simple obesity (i.e., not caused by endocrine or metabolic disorders).
Traditional Chinese medicine does not use the term "obesity" as a disease name, but its understanding of obesity dates back to ancient times. The Ling Shu: Abnormalities of the Defensive Qi states: "Some people are obese, others are greasy... Those with full skin are obese. Those with loose skin... are greasy. The greasy type has abundant qi, causing the skin to become loose and slack."Zhang Zhichong of the Qing Dynasty similarly noted: "The qi of the middle jiao steams bodily fluids, transforming their essence... When overflowing externally, it manifests as plump skin and flesh; when accumulating internally, it results in fullness and abundance." He attributed obesity to excessive dietary intake.Procedure: Perform 300 tonifying strokes on the spleen meridian, 300 internal Bagua movements, 5 minutes of rubbing the Zhongwan point and abdominal massage, 50 kneading strokes each on Zusanli points, 5 kneading strokes each on the spleen shu and stomach shu points, followed by 10 rounds of standard spinal捏脊 technique from the Guwei point to the Dazhui point.
