As living standards improve and life accelerates, people may lack neither food nor drink, yet men often suffer from sleep deprivation. Even in harsh winters, persistent drowsiness may signal impending illness.
Does drowsiness mean insufficient sleep? Or could it indicate these diseases?
1.Daytime drowsiness is pronounced and worsens with activity
If men get adequate sleep nightly yet remain extremely sleepy during the day, this indicates a heart disease risk exceeding 60%. When cardiac function weakens, blood circulation inevitably suffers. Impaired perfusion and gas exchange in the brain heighten its sensitivity, disrupting its function and causing lethargy with no energy reserves.
Additionally, pulmonary heart disease and coronary heart disease can impair cardiac function, disrupting blood flow and causing lactic acid buildup in the body, ultimately inducing fatigue. If accompanied by chest tightness, palpitations, dizziness that worsens with activity but improves with rest, prompt medical evaluation with an ECG or cardiac ultrasound is advised.
2.Persistent Yawning and Rising Blood Pressure
If constant yawning stems from insufficient sleep, maintaining a balanced work-rest schedule and regular routine can alleviate it. However, stroke patients may experience frequent yawning a week before onset, particularly those with vascular hardening, narrowed blood vessels, or reduced blood flow. This deprives brain cells of oxygen and nutrients for extended periods, causing generalized weakness, drowsiness, and lethargy.
Stroke not only causes yawning but also triggers sudden blood pressure spikes, accompanied by generalized weakness, morning dizziness, facial drooping, drooling during sleep, memory decline, and slowed reactions. Obese individuals or those with high blood pressure, high blood sugar, or high cholesterol should seek immediate medical evaluation if persistent yawning coincides with elevated blood pressure.
3. Severe Snoring
If you consistently snore loudly at night with irregular breathing patterns and experience extreme daytime sleepiness, promptly seek medical evaluation for obstructive sleep apnea. Persistent snoring prevents the timely expulsion of metabolic waste from the body, causing cumulative harm with prolonged exposure. If persistent snoring is accompanied by morning fatigue, excessive sleepiness, or slowed reaction times, seek medical attention promptly.
Friendly Reminder
Regularly supplement your diet with vitamin D. Get moderate sun exposure, drink milk and yogurt, limit sweets, eat plenty of leafy greens, and soak your feet before bed to improve sleep quality.
