Nasolabial folds in younger individuals are often primarily due to inherent skeletal structure rather than sagging soft tissue in the cheeks. 2. Skin Aging and Sagging While some people naturally develop deeper nasolabial folds than others, generally speaking, these lines gradually deepen after age 35.Beyond genetic predisposition, aging is the primary culprit. As we age, collagen and moisture content in the skin diminish, while subcutaneous fat atrophies and sags. This leads to skin laxity and aging, creating surface depressions that form nasolabial folds—a common cause of these lines.
3. Excessive facial expressions
If nasolabial folds extend from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth, it's likely due to frequent smiling. If they extend downward from the corners of the mouth, it stems from habitually pursing or twisting the lips.
Preventing nasolabial folds
Use the tip of your tongue to massage the acupoints inside your lips in a clockwise direction, moving from left to right and up to down, repeating at least three times.
1. Begin massaging with the tip of your tongue on the upper side.
2. Move the tip to the right side of your lips.
3. Shift the tip to the left side of your lips.
4. Finally, position the tip under your lower lip.
