"The most romantic thing I can imagine is growing old with you,
collecting every little moment of laughter along the way,
to savor later while rocking in a chair..."
This tender song, "The Most Romantic Thing," is familiar to many.
On August 14th (Chinese Valentine's Day), Mr. Huang and his wife Ms. Ning
made a grand appearance at Fuzhou Aier Eye Hospital
in a spectacular display of affection—both underwent refractive surgery
to finally bid farewell to the glasses that had accompanied them for over two decades.
Small matter, big hassle
On the morning of August 14th, Qixi Festival, Mr. Huang and Ms. Ning from Xiamen arrived at the Refractive Surgery Center of Fuzhou Aier Eye Hospital. Dr. Zhang Chunxia, Director of the Refractive Surgery Department, conducted Mr. Huang's final preoperative vision check.
"Rainy days mean droplets on my lenses; winter brings fogged-up glasses; summer leaves sunburned marks where my frames rest. Playing sports? My glasses constantly slip down my nose..." The couple seemed to have a whole sackful of complaints about the hassles of wearing glasses.
In fact, Ms. Ning had successfully undergone vision correction surgery at Fuzhou Aier Eye Hospital last month. Eager to share the exhilarating experience of high-definition vision, she enthusiastically recommended it to friends and family. Mr. Huang, who works long hours in finance staring at computer screens, was deeply moved by his wife's joy after her surgery. Finally resolved to ditch his glasses, he joined his beloved in rediscovering the world through crystal-clear vision!
"One night, after brushing our teeth and heading to bed, his boss suddenly called demanding an urgent report. His first instinct was to grab his glasses and turn on the computer. But no matter how hard he searched, they were nowhere to be found. I rushed to help him look, only to realize I couldn't find my own glasses either.I knew I must have left them somewhere in the bathroom and forgotten to bring them into the bedroom, but the more I panicked, the harder it was to remember where..."
"We both have over 500 degrees of nearsightedness, so we couldn't see a thing. We had no choice but to start groping around like blind men feeling an elephant, grabbing anything that looked remotely similar to check. We searched the dressing table, sofa, coffee table, and dining table without success. I even started wondering if the glasses had grown legs and run away. After half an hour of exhausting groping, I finally found my glasses on the toilet flush handle. Then I quickly spotted his glasses on the washing machine lid! "When we could see clearly again, he was on the phone, covered in dust and getting yelled at..." Recalling this incident, the couple still finds it both laughable and exasperating.

Shared Responsibility, Together We Stand
As for why they chose laser eye surgery, both answered in unison:
We'd had enough. Truly had enough.
Ms. Ning shared: "Last month, through a friend's recommendation,
I successfully underwent laser eye surgery at Fuzhou Aier Eye Hospital.
Post-op, my vision is 1.0 in one eye and 1.2 in the other.
I'd considered laser surgery many times before,
but it was all just hearsay.
This experience left me thoroughly satisfied with Aier's medical technology and the healthcare services provided by their staff. I hold Aier in high regard and am especially grateful to Director Zhang Chunxia of the Refractive Surgery Department at Fuzhou Aier Eye Hospital.
After years of marriage, the couple's mutual understanding is unmatched.
"When my husband suggested getting laser eye surgery, I agreed almost immediately.
After all these years together, we know each other too well," Ms. Ning laughed.
She shared that seeing friends with myopia shed the burden of glasses
and become more handsome, beautiful, and radiant
made her eager to follow suit.
Since I started driving, the drawbacks of wearing glasses became increasingly apparent.
With masks now essential due to the pandemic,
my plan to get rid of glasses solidified my resolve—and I even convinced my best friend to join me.
