Using porcelain crowns for dental restoration is a good option, but it doesn't mean they are perfect and flawless. After all, porcelain crowns are a type of dental prosthesis, merely superior to other prosthetics. This means porcelain crowns also have their shortcomings, so extra attention must be paid to the precautions associated with them.
1. Causes of Porcelain Crown Dislodgement: - Faulty retention design; - Imprecise restoration fabrication; - Poor bonding; - Excessive occlusal forces.
3. Causes of poor color: Design errors in restoration fabrication; porcelain layer too thin; shade selection errors; inherent defects in metal-ceramic crowns.
5. Gingival Discoloration Causes: Imprecise restoration fabrication; inherent defects in metal-ceramic crowns (e.g., shoulder-type porcelain design at the cervical margin, metal ion migration and deposition on the gingiva).
6. Porcelain Chipping (separation of porcelain from metal layer, exposing underlying metal color) Causes: Imprecise restoration fabrication; improper restoration design; excessive occlusal forces.
7. Fracture involving the tooth: Causes include: poorly fabricated restorations; design errors in restoration fabrication; excessive occlusal forces.
8. Gingival/periodontal lesions (gingival bleeding, tooth mobility, etc.): Causes include: poorly fabricated restorations; allergies; inadequate oral hygiene.
